t was a great day's sailing with a good (although chilly) breeze and lots of sunshine - but there were only 3 of us. The good news is that Hickling Broad SC are happy for us to be back next year and hopefully we'll have more boats then. Anyway, we had 3 races, each one starting 3 minutes after the mixed handicap fleet enjoying normal club racing. Veronica Falat got 3 straight wins with Richard Beech second each time and Nick Billingsley 3rd. Richard built his own boat, having been a Solo sailor in a past life. As the only Streaker sailor at Hickling he doesn't often have the chance to compare his boat with others. So the day provided a good opportunity to try different ideas; by race 3 he was sailing with a different mainsheet system and going faster. The idea of the East Anglian series of opens is to help Streaker sailors like Richard find out what might work well for them in terms of rig adjustments, sailing technique, etc. The next event will be at Beccles Amateur SC on Sunday 12th June. |
