Near perfect conditions greeted the Streaker Southern series at RSC today, with the Home sailors showing a reluctance to turn out super sub Hannah Mumford was drafted in last minute to represent Redoubt sc. When the sailors launched for the first race the breeze was light and shifty, 2 minuets before the gun the wind shifted 90% which led to a reaching start catching 2 boats out over the line. Experience came to the front with Alan Simmons from Lancing sc sailing off into the distance after a return to the line to take the win, while the trailing boats behind all had great racing regularly changing places. It looked like Simon Herrington from Downs sc was favourite for 2nd until a grounding at the post knocked him back, then a shut out at mark 2 allowed Alex Reindorp of Chipstead Sc to come through and take 2nd with Simon eventually taking a battling 3rd. After lunch the breeze had settled and built. A clean start at race 2 saw Alex Reindorp have a good start on starboard tack with four boats following, but pulling the trigger at the port end saw Hannah Mumford power off the line to lead at the windward mark. A battle then ensued between Hannah & Alex throughout and although Alex had an altercation with grounding at the post his experience in streakers paid and he took the win, with Hannah 2nd! and Simon 3rd. The final Race started with 3 boats all in contention for the win. With another good start Alex got off the line and rounded the windward mark but Simon and Hannah keeping him honest close behind. Alex & Simon pulled clear of Hannah and then a real tussle followed with the pressure from Simon hot on Alex’s heals eventually telling with indecision at the post resulting in Alex’s 2nd grounding of the day allowing Simon through to take the lead. Further down the field Phil Haldron from Downs sc was having a great battle with Alan Simmons, there were regular swapping of places throughout with Phil coming out on top taking 4th and Alan 5th. Back at the front Simon pulled clear ahead and only looked like throwing it away once with a near miss with Hannah and subsequent heal of death but managing to just hold it and then take the win, with Alex 2nd and Hannah 3rd. Thanks to Jack, Hillary, Andy, Steve and Brian for running the event and all the visitors for their support attending in lovely conditions for racing.
