STREAKER STAND PREVIEW - RYA DINGHY SHOW

We're now only days away from that annual get-together of dinghy sailors known as the RYA Dinghy Show that kicks off the sailing season. It's this weekend - March 5th-6th. Alexandra Palace in London is not always the easiest place to get to - but it's well worth the trip if you want to see what's happening on the UK dinghy scene.

We're looking forward to meeting lots of Streaker sailors on our stand, C66 in the Great Hall. There will be two boats on display, from Butler Boats and The Boatyard at Beer. Both will be brand new FRP boats. This will be a great opportunity to see them for yourselves and chat with the builders about construction and layouts.

Alan Gillard, SCOA Chairman and Technical Officer, will also be on hand to discuss technical and measurement matters - and don't forget, he's also the person to talk to about the CD of plans that can be bought from SCOA by people tempted to have a go at building a Streaker at home. If you haven't already paid your 2016 membership subscription, you can do that at the show - we can take cash and cheques but can't take cards.

As well as meeting Streaker sailors we're also keen to meet all those people who are considering joining us. Some of them will be keen to have a go in a Streaker sometime soon. Veronica Falat will be getting in touch with Streaker owners around the country to see if trial sails can be arranged in various locations.

One of the frequently asked questions asked by people interested in Streakers relates to the 'ideal' weight of the helmsman/helmswoman. We will have data that includes the weights of people finishing in the top 10 at the Nationals in recent years - and what gear they were using.

Do come along and visit our stand. Help us spread the word about what a great boat the Streaker is. The potential for growth of the class is huge. There are still many clubs, especially in southern England, where Streakers have yet to make an appearance.

Just think of those poor people who haven't sailed a Streaker - it's up to us to tell them what they're missing!
