2015 Streaker Season Ready to Roll

Firstly a big Thank You to everyone who helped on the Streaker stand at the Dinghy Show, not only Streaker members but also the guys from Butler Boats, Rooster Sailing and The Boatyard at Beer. We had two FRP Streakers on the stand, both looking really good.

The Butler FRP boat needed little introduction as Butler Streakers have achieved so much in the last year or so, especially as the 2014 Championship winning boat is a Butler and the second placed boat is a Butler fitted out by Pinnell & Bax.

The Rooster boat on display is from the new moulds produced over the winter by The Boatyard at Beer and it was particularly helpful having Kevin Driver and Ian Teasdale on hand to talk to people about the boat and the options for fitting out.

Meanwhile, the Butler Boats stand had a composite Streaker on display. All three boats attracted a lot of attention and praise and It was great to find that there is plenty of interest in the class, despite there being so many singlehanded dinghy classes for people to choose from.

The Dinghy Show also gave us a chance to start our 40th Anniversary celebrations. Class Chairman Ian Bradley brought a cake along, decorated with our anniversary logo, and past Streaker Champion and current Int. 14 World Champion Glen Truswell cut the cake for us. Hopefully cakes will continue to feature in our celebrations this year!

The big news at the Dinghy Show was that the Streaker PY number has gone down again. We’ve dropped 8 points from 1146 to 1138, while the Solos have gone down to 1140 – which means we need to beat them over the water to stand a chance of beating them on handicap. It will be interesting to see how this affects our club and regatta racing this year. Of course many other classes have also taken a hit – but the Laser and Laser Radial numbers have again gone up a bit. It’s interesting that we’re now only 3 points slower than a Laser radial.
