Doug Horner wins the South East Area Series

More information on

This year's South East Area series consisted of 6 events at clubs in Kent and Sussex and 10 Streaker sailors qualified by competing in at least 6 races from those events.

Bough Beech in early April provided race wins for Alex Reindorp, Paul Grace and Howard Freer. Then in May newcomer to the fleet Doug Horner made his presence felt by winning 2 of the races at Downs. The other race went to Simon Cory but Howard Freer was series leader by having sailed at both events so far.

Doug gained another race win at Chipstead although Alex Butler was on top in that event with 2 wins and a 2nd. Then it was the Medway Regatta at Wilsonian where Doug gained 2 more wins and was now the series leader. However, Howard Freer was still in with a chance after he got 2 firsts at Weir Wood and Paul Grace added another win to his score card.

Neither Howard nor Paul made it to Redoubt, the final event, so Doug's position at the top of the results was safe but he put his seal on the contest by winning 2 of the races, the other going to Alex Reindorp.

Top 5 overall: 1st 1940 Doug Horner (Swanage SC); 2nd 1777 Howard Freer (Sutton Bingham SC); 3rd 1819 Alex Reindorp (Chipstead SC); 4th 1887 Paul Grace (Chipstead SC); 5th 1844 Chris Smith (Island Barn SC).

This has been a successful second year for this series. Many thanks to all the clubs involved.
